Jolie’s lead role as the video game heroine Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) established her as a leading Hollywood actress. She continues her successful action star career with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), Wanted (2008), and Salt (2010), and received praise for her performances in the dramas A Mighty Heart (2007) and Changeling (2008), which earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress .
Since 2010 she has expanded her career with directing and producing the war dramas In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011) and Unbroken (2014), as well as the romantic drama By the Sea (2015). Her biggest business success so far is the fantasy movie Maleficent (2014).
Over the years, she has had other laser tattoos removed or hidden, including “Billy Bob”, the name of her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton, a Chinese symbol for death (死) and a window at the bottom of her back. She explains that she got rid of the window because she “spent all her time looking through windows, wishing she was outside, but now she’s living outside all the time”.
