David Yates is a director , screenwriter and producer British. He devotes his first years of career to the realization of short films and televised projects. Later, he gained recognition thanks to his work on the political mini-series Power Games and on the TV movie Sex Traffic . Taking direction of the last four Harry Potter films , then films from the spin-off series Fantastic Animals , he gained global notoriety and became, thanks to the wizarding world franchise , the fifth most profitable director of the history of cinema.

Biography

He was born in St Helens in Merseyside in October 8 , 1963. His parents died when he was very young. Raised with his younger brother, Andrew, and his older sister, Beverley in the village of Rainhill in England, he decided to pursue a career in film after seeing the film The Jaws , directed by Steven Spielberg . Before his death, his mother bought him a Super 8 movie camera (in) . He used it many times to shoot films in which included his family and friends.

He attended St Helens College (in) where he attended courses in sociology, politics and literature. He later obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 5 at the University of Essex. At the university, Yates forms the Film and Video Production Society .

Style and method of work

Emma Watson said Yates liked to push his actors and his team to extreme both physical and emotional . Gary Oldman added that the director has a preference for the slow work and achievement of many taken.

Yates has been influenced by filmmakers such as David Lean and Ken Loach 12 . His work universe comprises mainly social and political themes, and his style tends towards hyperrealism. Moreover, the director is recognized as being particularly calm, pleasant and generous with the actors and the teams. He likes to create, according to his words, “an atmosphere where the actors feel safe enough to take risks”.

Career

Before 2007, he worked primarily for British television, especially for the BBC. To everyone’s surprise [ref. necessary] , he is chosen to perform Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix , succeeding Chris Columbus , Alfonso Cuarón and Mike Newell . He renews the experience three times in a row by performing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (both parts).
