Charlize Theron (born August 7, 1975 ) is a South African – American actress, producer and fashion model as well as Golden Globe / Oscar winner. She currently resides in Los Angeles. In 2003, she was the Oscar – winner for the best actress for her portrayal of the serial killer Aileen Wuorno in the movie Monster, which made her the first African to receive the award in that category. Two years later he received a second time an Academy Award nomination for her performance in North Country. Since 2007, Theron is a US citizen , although she still retains her South African citizenship.

Biography

Charlize Theron was born on August 7, 1975 in Benoni in the then Transvaal province as the only child of Gerda Jacoba Aletta (née Maritz)  and Charles Jacobus Theron. She grew up on a holding near Benoni, where she was at Putfontein Primary School from 1982 to 1988. At Die Kruin School for Art, Music, Ballet and Drama in Parktown, Johannesburg, where she lived from 1989 to 1989. 1993, among other things, taking ballet, she was very popular with the girls according to her former ballet teacher. Although Theron speaks English fluently, her mother tongue is Afrikaans.

Her mother, Gerda, shot her father, Charles, in 1991 with his own weapon from self-defense after drunkenness and domestic violence reached a breaking point in their home. (Charlize was 15 at the time.) Gerda was not charged for his death.

Personal life

From 1997 to 2001 she maintained a romantic relationship with Stephan Jenkins , vocalist of the band Third Eye Blind . Later she began a relationship with the Irish actor Stuart Townsend , with whom she starred in the films Trapped (2002) and Head in the Clouds (2004), however the couple separated in 2010 after being approximately nine years together.
