Clinton ” Clint ” Eastwood jr. (born May 31, 1930 ) is an American actor , filmmaker , director, musician and political figure whose career spans more than six decades.

Eastwood was born on May 31 in San Francisco , the son of Clinton Eastwood Sr. (1906–1970) and Ruth (Runner) Wood (1909–2006).

From 1986 to 1988, Eastwood was the impartial mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea in California .
He became known in the 1960s for his role as the Man Without Name in the Dollars trilogy and in the 1970s and 1980s as the anti-hero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry films. These and other roles made him an example of masculinity.

For his western Unforgiven (1992) and sports drama Million Dollar Baby (2004), Eastwood won Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture, and won Best Actor nominations. His biggest commercial success was the adventure comedy Every Which Way But Loose (1978) and the sequel, Any Which Way You Can (1980), after inflation adjustments. Other popular images include the western Hang ‘Em High (1968), the psychological thriller Play Misty for Me (1971), the crime movie Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974), the western The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), the prison movieEscape from Alcatraz (1979), the suspense movie Tightrope (1984), the western Pale Rider (1985) and the romantic drama The Bridges of Madison County (1995).
In addition to directing films in which he starred, he has also directed films in which he has not appeared, such as the mystery drama Mystic River (2003) and the war film Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), for which he received Oscar nominations and the drama Changeling (2008). The war drama American Sniper (2014) made the most money from a January release and was also the biggest opening of an Eastwood movie. In France , where his pictures are very popular, he became a “Commander” of the “Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” in 1994 and in 2007 he received the “Légion d’honneur” medal. In 2000 he won the Golden Lion on theVenetian Film Festival received for its lifelong contribution to the film industry.
Eastwood has contributed to more than 50 films over his career as an actor, director, producer and composer. He started working as a director in 1971.
