Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio is an American actor and filmmaker whose career kicked off with his role in the television sitcom Growing Pains and quickly switched to films. His critical breakthrough movie performance came into This Boy’s Life and was soon followed by What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

His portrayal of the role of the mentally retarded brother of Johnny Depp (in the title role) earned him nominations for the Golden Globe and Academy Awards for “Best Supporting Actor”. He gained fame for his portrayal of Jack Dawson in Titanic and has appeared in several other successful films, including Romeo + Juliet , Catch Me If You Can , and Blood Diamond; he was nominated for the latter for the Academy Award for “Best Actor”.
Award
Another Academy Award came for his role as Howard Hughes in The Aviator , directed by Martin Scorsese . He has continued to work with Scorsese in films such as Gangs of New York and The Departed . This collaboration was compared to the earlier working relationship between Scorsese and actor Robert de Niro , who also played roles in Scorsese’s films during his early career. In addition, DiCaprio also received two Bafta nominations, three Screen Actors Guild nominations, and a Silver Bear Award.
In 2016, DiCaprio won the Academy Award for “Best Actor” for his role in The Revenant .
